COVID-19 treatment

The FDA issued Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for two oral treatments for COVID-19.

Pfizer’s PAXLOVID is for use in COVID-19 positive patients ages 12 and up with a high risk for progression to severe COVID-19. The PAXLOVID prescription includes nirmatrelvir and ritonavir tablets, which must be co-administered.

Merck’s MOLNUPIRAVIR is for use in COVID-19 positive patients ages 18 and up with a high risk for progression to severe COVID-19. This treatment is for alternative use when other treatment is nit available applies when alternative COVID-19 treatment is not accessible or clinically appropriate.
*Treatment is preferred to start as soon as possible or within the first 5 days of symptoms onset.*
